Mount Athos Card Files

The Index of Medieval Art is a century-old repository for the iconographic traditions of the medieval world. The Index holds both a physical archive on the Princeton University campus and an expanding online database. However, Mount Athos prominently features in the former and scholars who are not able to travel to the Princeton campus have no access to this incredible collection. There are hundreds of print cards and photographs focusing on the monumental depictions of Mount Athos (monasteries include Protaton, Vatopedi, and Chilandari), icons, enamels, and manuscript records that would be incredibly beneficial to scholars.
